Derek began his career in land management in 2005 after earning a Business Diploma from SAIT and a Management Degree from the University of Lethbridge. With a passion for building relationships and negotiating practical solutions, a career in the land industry was a natural fit.
Beginning as a Mineral Landman specializing in freehold lease negotiations, Derek has built more than 20 years of experience across the energy sector. Throughout his career, he has held management positions with several land service companies, supporting mineral, surface, and regulatory functions for clients in oil & gas, renewables, telecommunications, helium, hydrogen, geothermal, potash, and other mining industries.
In addition to his consulting experience, Derek has served as Land Manager for several energy companies, overseeing internal land management, negotiations, and strategic land operations.
Throughout his career, Derek has witnessed significant changes in both the energy industry and the regulatory landscape. He believes that continuous learning, adaptability, and the application of new ideas are essential to delivering effective land solutions and supporting the future of the energy industry.
